I am not itemizing deductions. We use two different home offices, one for myself and one for my wife. Do I have to enter my home tax as excess real estate taxes twice, for each home office?

You should enter your real estate taxes in the real estate tax field for each home office, not the excess real estate tax field. You will be entering the same amount twice, but then it will be prorated according to the respective sizes of each home office.

Since you are not using Schedule A Itemized Deductions, your real estate tax is not being limited on Schedule A. The excess real estate tax question in the home office section refers to the portion of real estate tax that you were not allowed to claim on Schedule A due to a limitation.

Sorry, I am a little confused now. The TT program tells me

"If you paid real estate taxes but are not itemizing deductions, do not enter your real estate taxes here. Enter them as excess real estate taxes later."

Should I ignore this message and still enter real estate taxes in the real estate tax field for each home office?

Since you have two home offices go ahead and divide the property tax in half and enter half of the total for each home office in the 'excess real estate tax' field. That should solve that.
