topic I had someone steal a lot of my belongings from my house last October. For example, my class ring and other jewelry was stolen. How do I claim that for a deduction? in Business & farm

Someone stole belongings including jewelry, clothes, my television, et cetera and I never got those items back. I saw that under the deductions page there's something about theft and natural disasters so I thought I would fill it out there, but I don't know if it's the right spot because the theft wasn't necessarily a result of the disaster (COVID-19). What should I do? Or is this not even worth pursuing?

Casualty and theft losses are not deducible on a federal tax return unless the loss was due to a declared natural disaster.

So sorry that happened to you. But sadly there is no deduction on your tax return for that. When the tax laws changed for 2018 and beyond, casualty and theft losses were eliminated as a deduction on your federal return.
