unless you are the victim of identity fraud, you got the 1099-Misc for doing something. if you leave it off your return, sooner or later you'll get a letter from the IRS about the omission. If you enter the 1099-Misc in TT there's no way to tell TT to ignore it.

We need to know why you received this money before we can tell you how to report it. If you simply ignore it, the IRS will assume it is taxable income and send you a bill for taxes and penalties.

If you sold some things, that is income that needs to be reported on your tax return.

If the selling was a regular or continuous thing, that IS a business that needs to be reported on Schedule C.

As others noted, if you still have questions you need to provide as much detail as possible.

If the income is reported in box 3 or 7 of the 1099-MISC, then as far as the IRS is concerned that "is" self-employment income. There are "rare" exceptions. So what box on the 1099-MISC is the income reported in, and why were you paid that money?
