      <description>&lt;P&gt;Were you told that because you had no distributions from your HSA, that is, you spent no money out of the HSA account?&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;If you didn't have any contributions, either, then in most cases, you won't have to file a form 8889 at all, so don't go through the HSA interview (which creates the 8889).&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;If you did have contributions to your HSA (often indicated by code "W" in box 12 on your W-2), then be sure to go to the HSA interview under Deductions &amp;amp; Credits. Even though you might not be getting a 1099-SA because you perhaps had no distributions, you still must go all the way through the interview, because otherwise your Code W amount will be added back to your taxable income.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;/P&gt;</description>
