As long as the property tax was paid in 2017, it can be deducted on your 2017 tax return. It does not matter what year the tax bill
represented.

You can include it on your return in a couple of different
ways. If it was paid through your
mortgage company, it is likely that it will be included with the amount shown
on your 1098. If it was paid separately
by you, then the mortgage information probably won’t include the amount.

You can either add it to the amount reported on the 1098 or
use the steps below to show that it was an Additional
Property Tax paid on your main home.
The important thing is to be sure to claim the amount only one
time.

To go to the section of the
tax return to enter this information:

On the top row of the
TurboTax online screen, click on Search (or for CD/downloaded TurboTax
locate the search box in the upper right corner)

This opens a box where you
can type in “property tax” (be sure to enter exactly as shown here) and
click the magnifying glass (or for CD/downloaded TurboTax, click Find)

    The search results will
give you an option to “Jump to property tax”

    Click on the blue “Jump
to property tax” link and enter your information
