It is asking what type of HDHP my spouse had on Dec 1 2016. At that time she had family like I did. When I select family, the next page says "We see 'spouse' had a break in HDHP health plan coverage during 2017. Let us know if this was the result of a disability"
My spouse did not have any lapse in coverage but that is not an option. She does not have an HSA, only I do but her coverage has never changed.

If you answer No and enter nothing in the next section about contributions, TurboTax accepts this and moves on without increasing the tax liability. I just tried it on my mock system and got the same question. I'm sure there is system logic in there regarding you having a family plan that includes her.

If that doesn't work for, you can send me a diagnostic copy of your file as described below.

We can pull up a
sanitized copy (all personal information is blocked from view) of your tax
return and take a look to see if something is triggering the error. Here is
what you need to do to generate the token code:
Open up Tax Tools at the bottom left of the side bar. Click on Tools directly underneath Tax
Tools. Tools Center will pop-up in the
middle of your screen. Select Share My
File with Agent. Click OK for Diagnostic
Copy. The next box will have a six digit
number that you share. (It's a random
number generated number that means nothing to anyone else).

Since your wife does not have an HSA, made no contributions/withdrawals and is covered by you under the family HDHP, the answer is No. She did not have an HDHP in December, 2016. When we reviewed the 8889 forms, they are reflecting your situation correctly.
