Real estate taxes are property taxes you pay to the count...

Real estate taxes are property taxes you pay to the county. It has nothing to do with the amount of principal repaid by you on your mortgage.

The amount of mortgage interest paid by you (reported on your 1098 form) should be entered on Schedule A for itemized deduction. To the best of my knowledge the amount of principal paid does not figure anywhere in the taxes.
