      <description>&lt;P&gt;Why do you think you cannot use the standard deduction?&amp;nbsp; The software uses your standard deduction as the default unless you enter enough itemized deductions to exceed your standard deduction or unless you force itemized deductions.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;The exception is if you file married filing separately.&amp;nbsp; If you file that way, then both of you HAVE to file the same way, even if one of you is impacted negatively by it.&amp;nbsp; So if you are filing MFS and your spouse itemizes, you have to itemize too.&lt;/P&gt;</description>
