topic How to separate business mileage for three different businesses that have used the same car on the same day, and only recorded total mileage for each day??? in Deductions & credits

I work 3 1099 self employed jobs. Construction/subcontracting, music therapy, and entertaining in nursing homes. Many days I’ve done all three “businesses” in the same day using the same personal car. I have created a total mileage for each day, but don’t have them separated. Do I have to separate them and if so do they have to be accurate? Could I take the number of businesses worked in a particular day and divide it by that day’s mileage, even though it isn’t exactly how much each had, but it totals to the right amount? For instance 150 miles on a certain day, 50 -construction, 50-Entertainment, 50-music therapy. Does it matter or do I need to be more accurate?

Because you took inaccurate records last year, just estimate. If you are able to reconstruct things, that is better.

However, you are supposed to record much more details, including the location and business purpose of each trip. I recommend you start doing that now.
