topic 1095-A and non-dependents in Deductions & credits

At the beginning of last year, I thought my son would be a dependent and listed him as such for the 1095-A.
However, he ended up going to school only part-time, so he is not eligible as a dependent.

However, I only have one 1095-A, with him listed and Connect for Health Colorado said they cannot change the 1095 and issue him a separate one. Last year I had a 1095-A without him on it and he had a separate one.

How do I (and he) go about entering 1095-A information? Do I just enter everything with him as a non-dependent and he states he did not get a 1095-A on his tax return?

Thanks.

You BOTH will enter the 1095-A on your return exactly as it appears on the paper. Then you will both select that you shared the policy with another tax payer. You will then be given the opportunity to allocate the policy between you and him. This number can be any number between 0% to 100% as long as you and he agree to that percentage and it adds up to 100%. Sometimes parents claim 100% if the credit was based on their income, other times they split it.

If you cannot agree, then you would split it based on the number of people on the policy (ex. 2 people=50%, 4 people=25%)

To enter the 1095-A select the following:

Federal

Deductions and Credits

Medical

1095-A
