All,

Not sure if anyone figured it out importing any data from Franklin Templeton.

TurboTax help was useless and I spent too much time just to post this!

As others have noted, either TurboTax 2025 development team failed to code as previous TT versions capabilities or it was developed per new Franklin Templeton request!?!

I was able to import, but you will need to have your account number and your SSN (need the "-") and probably purged web history when done.

To import, I recommend downloading your FT tax documents, so that you have the list of accounts numbers to enter and import EACH fund separately!

Once you have selected Franklin Templeton Mutual Funds, you will be re-directed to a webpage.

You need to enter your FT account number NOT including the Fund number.

Example: Your fund info: 600-12345, you will ONLY enter 12345 and then enter your SSN with the dashes below. You will then be prompted to "allow" and the import will be in TurboTax.

If you have more than 1 fund, you will need to repeat for the others.

Hope this helps.

When I've used the import function in pre-2025 versions of Turbotax, it always loaded all the 1099's (B/D, R) for my return from a mutual fund site. But in the 2025 version (home and Business), when I try to access my Franklin Templeton data, it loads from only a single specific account, not my entire set of funds. Is this new bug/feature for this year, or am I missing something.

It's possible Franklin Templeton hasn't released all the information for import yet. Below are some other things to check for.

If you received a "Success" message but your data hasn't appeared in TurboTax, it is likely due to recent browser security updates regarding Local Network Access.

To fix this you need to allow TurboTax to securely retrieve your data through your browser settings:

Locate the View Site Information icon (the "tune" or "lock" icon) on the far left of your address bar, just before the URL.

Find Local Network Access in the dropdown menu.

Toggle the switch to ON.

Refresh the page and attempt your import again.

If permissions aren't the issue, one of the following factors may be at play:

Brokerage Delays: While most forms arrive by January 31, many brokerages delay Consolidated 1099s (like the 1099-B) until mid-February due to complex reporting requirements.

Availability: Your brokerage must specifically "release" the import file to TurboTax. If it isn’t ready, we recommend checking back.

Connection Blocks: Active VPNs or aggressive Anti-Virus software can occasionally block the import feature between your bank and TurboTax. Try disabling them temporarily or switching to a different browser.

Helpful TurboTax Articles:

All of the above may be true. But after working on importing data into my Ttax return, I think Franklin or Intuit have changed something this year. If you have, say, an IRA at American Funds, it has one account number with multiple mutual funds. At Franklin, your "IRA" is really a series of individual mutual fund accounts. Last year, when importing from Franklin, they asked for your Franklin Login ID and password. This year, Ttax asks for an account number and your Soc Sec No. Assuming no typo's, Ttax communicates with Franklin and imports the data for the specific account. But the ability to see all the associated Franklin account numbers seems to have disappeared.

Perhaps Franklin and Intuity can work this out in the near future. In the meantime, I think we have to live with multiple single imports, or (ugh) entering the necessary 1099-R, 1099-B, and 1099-Div info manually.

Thanks for your ideas.

Another person with the same issue: TT doesn't import data from Franklin-Templeton, does import data from other firms. Have tried with both account numbers, including and discarding the dashes.

Same issue whether using either firefox or edge browsers.

Any solution on the horizon?

(Hopefully before the tax deadline too).

Catina:

Hopefully I can explain this problem. It's not that the import doesn't work, it's that the import from Franklin Templeton only brings in data from a single Franklin Templeton account. And each separate mutual fund at Franklin is regarded as a single account. So with my Franklin IRA, which holds five different mutual funds, the import only brings in data from the specific fund number, not all five accounts the way TurboTax did last year. So to get all the 1099-R data from my IRA, I have to do 5 specific imports. (Ok, 5's not a huge problem, but I know a guy that's got 50 Franklin "accounts".

So whatever the Intuit development team did in setting up the 2025 software "broke" the way Franklin data was imported last year (2024). Last year, you entered your Franklin Templeton userid and password, and all of the 1099-R and combined 1099-B/D data got imported in a single step. As I've hopefully explained above, that's not the case this year.

As far as I can tell, this "problem" is specific to Franklin Templeton. With American Funds or Hartford, you enter your userid and password, tell TurboTax to import, and all of the 1099 data comes over in a single step.

Clear as mud?

Fred

Account number 000-99999 only use portion after the - 99999

SS Number with dashes 000-00-0000 include the dashs

3 Captcha sheets

Import Success

Next Fund, Ooops there is a problem. It seems Franklin wants a significant amount of time between attempts to import.

It would have been much quicker and easier to type in the information than try to import.

The problem is I went paperless, and trying to find the documents on Franklin's website is equally frustrating.

Please push this response to the top: Account number is only after dash (i.e. 123-456789 you enter 456789 and SSN is with dashes, 123-456789. All other wrong answers including expert are, well, wrong.
