topic Why is the cost basis of my house sale different on the state form from what I entered on the Federal form? in Deductions & credits

This resulted in a higher gain on my state tax form which makes no sense. The gain should be the same on both Federal and State. Has anyone experienced this?

Can you clarify which state? Sometimes this occurs if you took a home office deduction, but each state has different rules.

Mary, it’s CA and I figured out the issue. It is a turbo tax issue that I found by doing some research online. Other people complained about house sale gains issues and the fix is to delete that section and then the enter it. It’s ridiculous that Turbo tax issue not fixing their error and that I had to research their error. But it’s now fixed for me. I would have overpaid by $2,200 on my state return if I hadn’t noticed the error. @
