I had a storm shelter installed in my primary residence in Tennessee in the 2025 year. Can I deduct it on my taxes? I've found conflicting information on google.

No. You cannot deduct the storm shelter on your taxes.

You can however add it to the cost basis of your home, since this is an improvement, for when you sell it. Adding to the cost basis of your home will help lower your potential capital gain on the sale of your home.

For this reason, it is a good idea to keep the receipts for the storm shelter as well as all the other home improvements you make while owning the home to make it easier to calculate and prove your cost basis.
