topic Do I need to split deductions? in Deductions & credits

Married filing jointly, we both did gig work (them; doordash, I; Amazon flex)

Both used the same car, we have the mileage and everything but for deductions such as maintenance, tags & taxes, car payments, insurance, etc

Do I need to split the expenses

Ex. Let's say $1000 on maintenance, do I need to put $500 on my Schedule C and $500 on their Schedule C? Or do I put the full amount on both ex. $1000 on theirs, $1000 on mine. (These amounts are hypothetical)

Yes. If you are both doing individual gig work, you will both need to file your own Schedule C which will include the income and expenses individually for each of you.

Yes and no for expenses. If you are taking the actual expenses instead of mileage you would first need to determine business versus personal use. So if you had expenses of $1,000 and drove 10,000 miles and 5,000 of those miles were personal miles and 2,500 miles were your business and 2,500 was their business, the you would enter $250 on your return and $250 on their return, and the other $500 would not be deductible since it would be personal expenses.

Now if the vehicle was driven 10,000 and 50% of the miles were personal and 20% of the miles were yours and 30% of the miles were theirs, then you would enter $200 on yours, $300 on theirs and again the other $500 is not deductible.

Your other option would be take the standard mileage deduction then you would enter the total miles driven for work on your schedule C and they would enter the total miles for business on their Schedule C

You cannot take both mileage and actual expenses. You can enter everything into TurboTax and it will tell you which is best.
