My mother has just passed 12-31, we are trying to get the will and what not going. I never knew we’d have to do the court stuff I can’t even get her buried yet and to top it off my bank account was hacked and suspended but I found out her house has been in my name since she bought it so I went down and paid the property taxes on it on 1-9-26. Do I claim that on next years taxes. I am so confused

Very sorry for your loss. Dealing with all of the aftermath when a family member passes is confusing and difficult. Since you paid the property tax in January 2026, it gets entered on a 2026 tax return; you do not enter anything about it on your 2025 return.
