In that case, you should be able to deduct the loss. I tested this and was unable to replicate a zip code error.

Here are the steps:

Ensure you have selected this is personal property

Select the type of disaster, noting that it is a federally declared disaster.

Enter the FEMA code- make sure the zip code of the vacation house is one of the zip codes per the FEMA code (check here: Disasters and Other Declarations) I used the Milton code, DR-4834.

I have done all as you outlined and still says my zip code is invalid even though it is in the major disaster area.
it says I need a valid zip code, but it is. So frustrating

I would like to take a deeper look at this. However, I need a diagnostic file which is a copy of your tax return that has all of your personal information removed. You can send one to us by following the directions below:

TurboTax Online:

Sign into your online account.

Locate the Tax Tools on the left-hand side of the screen.

A drop-down will appear. Select Tools

On the pop-up screen, click on “Share my file with agent.”

This will generate a message that a diagnostic file gets sanitized and transmitted to us.

Please provide the Token Number that was generated in the response.

TurboTax Desktop/Download Versions:

Open your return.

Click the Online tab in the black bar across the top of TurboTax and select “Send Tax File to Agent” *

This will generate a message that a diagnostic copy will be created. Click on OK and the tax file will be sanitized and transmitted to us.

Please provide the Token Number (including the dash) that was generated in the response.

*(If using a MAC, go to the menu at the top of the screen, select Help, then, “Send Tax File to Agent”)

@MShotwell13
