Neither answer fits, since both options indicate coverage ended.

This message probably does not apply to you.

Your husband likely does not have an HSA so never went through the HSA interview which asks for his HDHP coverage.

Because of this, TurboTax becomes confused and thinks that your husband does not have coverage in 2024.

If your husband did not have an HSA in 2024, then answer NONE.

If your husband did have an HSA but did not contribute to his HSA in 2024, then answer NONE. (Remember that each of you can have an HSA).

If your husband were covered by an HDHP policy for each month of 2024, then answer NONE.

You may have to back up a screen and answer NONE to the type of coverage he had in 2023.

It worked but that doesn't make sense. Why would I indicate that my spouse didn't have coverage when that's not true?

Even though the answers do not sound like they are correct, this is the way the questions need to be answered in TurboTax to describe a situation where both the taxpayer and spouse are covered under the same Family High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) with a Health Savings Account.

Take a closer look at the question on the screen just prior to the one telling you there was a lapse in coverage.

If both you and your spouse are covered under the same Family plan, then the person with the HDHP in their name will indicate they had a family plan. The other person will indicate they had None because the HDHP was not in their name.

@LP47
