Schedule 8812 is child tax credit. Even if I look at my return showing all calculation worksheets it does not generate or show me this form - I can find the instructions online and do it myself and get the same number but shouldn't turbotax have show me how it got to that number on a worksheet?.

That is a decision made by the TurboTax programmers, which we have no access to on this forum.

2025 8812 line 13 enters a number from credit limit worksheet A - how can I see this worksheet? Someone posted that they could come up with the same calculation, I can't. I calculate the amount as follows: tax rate from tax table times taxable income sb this Worksheet amount which gets posted to Line 16 form 1040 but it doesn't agree with what Turbo tax is showing.

Taxes are not so straight forward for calculations. Credit Limit Worksheet A isn't just looking at your total tax; it’s designed to figure out how much of your tax can be offset by non-refundable credits before you are allowed to claim the refundable portion (the ACTC).

Line 13 is trying to determine the limit of your tax liability that can be reduced. The formula generally looks like this:

Line 13 =Total Tax -Certain Non-refundable Credits

If you have other credits (like Energy credits or Foreign Tax credits), those reduce your tax liability first, which changes the amount available on Line 13.

Here's my scenario:

TI 36352

Form 8812: # of qualifying kids 2 @ $2200 = $4400

Line 13 from Credit Limit Worksheet A shows $4127 which on support states tax from tax table; so tax rate of 12% * $36352 = $4362 not $4127, so the estimate trying to reduce tax liability sb $4362 since there are no other credits. It's not, it shows $4127 which now forces tax on 1040 Line 16 to be 4127 to = $0 total tax. I get the concept, just not the math on this one?

Thank you

The tax of $4127 on an income of $36,352 is correct. This links to the IRS Federal income tax rate table for 2025.

Federal income tax is called a "progressive" tax system which means that not all of your taxable income is taxed at the same rate of tax. For your taxable income of $36,352, the first $11,925 of that is taxed at 10% for a tax of $1,193. The $24,427 of income that is left is taxed at 12% for a tax of $2,931, which gives a total of $4,124. However the tax tables have the same amount of tax of $4127 for incomes ranging from $36,350 to $36,400, so this is the amount that is used on your return for your tax liability.
