If the credits on your tax return reduce your tax liability to zero then any remaining credit will not be used and it is not carried forward to the next tax year.

I still have a non-zero tax liability. The issue is that when I see my total credits on the TurboTax summary, it shows a total of $2624. I know my child tax credit was about $2600 and I am not sure where my $2000 credit for heat pump was applied. To me it seems to be missing and I want to make sure the software is not mis-calculating this. I won't be able to finish filing with TurboTax until I figure this out.
