Yes, you should get up to $2,000 for that child.

The Child Tax Credit is a tax credit you can claim for each qualifying dependent child on your return. You can get up to $2,000 for each child under age 17 if your modified adjusted gross income (AGI) is less than:

$400,000 if you're Married Filing Jointly or a Qualifying Surviving Spouse, or

$200,000 for all other filing statuses

To qualify, your child must meet all of these requirements:

Be under the age 17 at the end of the tax year

Is your child, stepchild, foster child, adopted child, sibling, step-sibling, half-sibling, or a descendant of any of them (for example, a grandchild, niece, or nephew)

Has their own Social Security number

Children with ITINs don't qualify, but may instead be eligible for the $500 Credit for Other Dependents

Lived with you for more than half the year

Didn't support themselves (didn't pay more than half their expenses)

Is a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or U.S. resident alien

Residents of Canada or Mexico don't qualify

You do not "get" a full $2000 added to your refund for the younger child. The most you can have added to your refund for the child ---the additional child tax credit--- is $1600. The $2000 CTC is used first to reduce your tax liability. If any of that $2000 is left over, after your tax liability is at zero, it can be added to line 28 as the additional child tax credit.

And....the refundable credit is based on how much you earned from working. You "get" 15% of the amount above $2500 --- up to the full $1600. If your earnings were low, you will not get $1600.

Look at your 2022 Form 1040 to see the child-related credits you received

Child Tax Credit line 19

Credit for Other Dependents line 19

Earned Income Credit line 27

Additional Child Tax Credit line 28

The child tax credit (CTC) is a non-refundable credit and can only reduce your income tax to 0, It can not help you beyond eliminating your tax liability. But, if you have more than $2500 of earned income, some or all of it is usually given back to you thru the "Additional Child tax credit".

That is, part of the CTC may be on line 28 of form 1040 (2021- 2023) instead of line 19. The ACTC is calculated on form 8812 and is basically 15% of your earned income over $2500. The ACTC is a maximum of $1600 (2023) ($1500 for 2022) per child, not $2000.
