topic Itemized vs standard. in Deductions & credits

I was under the assumption that if I itemized my NY return my spousi would have to as well. I'm self employed she's w2, I wrote off all my expenses and entered her information and yet TT is still giving me the option to take the standard deduction. Is the a software error?

If your filing status is MFJ then both taxpayer and spouse will need to file the same way, Itemized or Standard Deduction. Even after entering all of your deductions, if the total amount Itemizing is less than the amount for Standard Deduction ($24,000 for MFJ) then it would be to your benefit to take the standard deduction.
