      <description>&lt;P&gt;You can only deduct the mortgage interest that was legally paid by you. &amp;nbsp;If the house was awarded to your ex-wife, I assume she paid the mortgage. &amp;nbsp;Sounds like the mortgage company has not been updated with divorce settlement information. &amp;nbsp;Since you did not pay mortgage, then you cannot deduct the interest.&lt;/P&gt;</description>

&lt;P&gt;No. &amp;nbsp;To deduct mortgage interest, you must be an owner of the property, and obligated on the mortgage, a&lt;U&gt;nd be the person who actually paid the mortgage.&lt;/U&gt;&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;If you were required to pay the mortgage under a separation or divorce agreement, as a form of spousal maintenance or alimony, you might be able to deduct part of the interest as described here.&lt;/P&gt;
