Prior year charitable cash deductions come across as non cash !

I saw this same problem posted about a week ago from the online version, I have Turbo Tax Premier/Mac

I have been doing my Mom's taxes for years in Turbo Tax. She had cash carryover charitable deductions from prior years. She has never had a non-cash charitable deduction, actually., I did just verify her 2021 return is correct, showing all carryovers as cash. Yet Turbo Tax 2022 carried them over as non-cash!

What should I do - wait for an update? Manually enter them (Charitable Donations Carryover from 2021update, zero out the non cash boxes on "Let's start with carryovers for non-cash donations", and then put the right amounts in "Now let's look at cash donation carryovers")? Anything else I need to do?

Yes, you should make the correction manually.

Exactly as you stated, delete the non-cash carryover amount and enter the amount in as a cash carryover. That is all you need to do to correct the return.

This is a GREAT post. THANK YOU. However, I have the same question, for those using desk top versus On-Line versions of Turbo Tax. I was hammered when my 2021 return was adjusted by the IRS for a "calculation error" on my return. As a result of your post, I now understand what happened. Since I have used Turbo Tax for several years, my 2021 return showed NON-CASH carryover which I knew I had NEVER had. This handling of prior carryover (line 6 on Charitable Deduction Limits Worksheet For Carryover Contributions) by Turbo Tax, ,resulted in my 2021 deduction be be grossly overstated on my 1040 schedule A. How do I keep this form happening again on my 2022 return and later returns?

How do I make that adjustment using desktop Turbo Tax? I have that same situation.

In TurboTax desktp-

-Go to Deductions and credits

-Scroll down to Charitable Donations

-The second button is 'Charitable Donations Carryover from 2021

-Click on the start button

-The first thing to pop up is non-cash carryovers. Delete the amounts here.

-The next page is cash donation carryovers. Enter the amounts here, where they should have been.

-Continue answering the questions until you finish the section.
