I entered almost all my information in TurboTax and had a refund coming. I then received a statement from another charitable organization. When I then entered this new donation amount, my refund lowered by one $200. How can this be?

Are you sure the amount that went down was a refund --- or was it tax due? Take a closer look at your Form 1040. Is there an amount on line 35a or an amount on line 37?

Click on Tax Tools on the left side of the screen. Click on Tools. Click on View Tax Summary. Click on Preview my 1040 on the left side of the screen.

What an idiot! Thanks, I thought it was a refund but it must have been a tax due!
