"Additional property taxes on your main home" is there if you have additional property taxes that you did not already enter on a previous screen (this is not common).

If you have an amount there, it is because you entered it. If you look at the image below, you will see the $2500.00 in property taxes that was entered on the 1098-INT screen. Below that is a box for "Additional property taxes on your main home". If $2500.00 was the entire amount of your property taxes, you would leave this field blank.

An example of why you might need that entry:

Tom owns two lots, one of which has his main home on it. The mortgage company pays his property taxes on his home and one lot and shows that amount on his 1098-INT. Tom writes a check to pay the taxes on the adjoining lot. Tom would enter the taxes on the adjoining lot in this field as "Additional property taxes on your main home" because he considers that lot as part of his main home.

If you need to review this section:

Select Federal from the left side menu.

Select Deductions and Credits.

Expand the list and scroll down to Property (Real Estate) Taxes.

Click Edit to the right.

You should add in TurboTax the property taxes that were due and paid during the tax year on your residence and up to one additional home. You need to keep a record of the property tax bill or other similar documentation to support your entry in case of an audit.
