topic Charitable contribution date - do I go with the bank or receiving organization (2022 vs 2023 donation)? in Deductions & credits

I donated money 12/31/2022 (via checking account). My bank shows this going through 1/3/2023, but the annual giving statement from the organization lists this contribution on 12/31/2022. Should I deduct this donation in 2022 or 2023?

Since the check was dated 2022 and the receiving organization noted it as a 2022 donation, you can enter it on your 2022 tax return.

Wow, that was fast! The problem is that there is no check - it was an online banking transaction, and since 12/31/22 was on a weekend, the only record I have in my banking records is that the money went out in early January 2023. So that's the source of my confusion! The bank says one thing and the organization says another.

Go with what the organization says. You can use that as your receipt.
