I'm sorry, but you can deduct property taxes only on property in your name (the name on the deed/mortgage).

In general you are not responsible for someone else's debt. However, there are times when a person has "equitable title" to property.

Equitable title. Under this doctrine, you prove that even though you do not have legal title, you bear the benefits and burdens of the property and are thus the true owner under the law for certain purposes.
