If you are filing as Single you would need more than $12,950 of itemized deductions to have any tax benefit. Have you entered that much of itemized deductions?

After you complete the Deductions & Credits section of the program it shows you the dollar amount of Standard and Itemized for your tax return.

Only the car registration is an itemized deduction. EIC is a credit and the Other Dependents is a credit, neither are itemized deductions.

Your standard deduction for Married Filing Jointly is $25,900. The standard deduction reduces your Adjusted Gross income so that you are then only taxed on the Taxable Income shown on the Form 1040 Line 15.

safe and you make a gift to the gov't of $1500 if you have support for the itemized deductions, you should take it. if your audited just produce whatever documentation the IRS asks for. it might ask for other documentation to see if all income was reported.

see this link IRS tax return audits.
