I was disabled most of the year of 2021 and was receiving Disability income from EDD California. I am also a real estate agent. Although I did not have any income from real estate in 2021 and did not practice it whatsoever, I still have the real estate expenses to maintain my license no matter what.
Those expenses are well over $1000 per year. I do not want to cause myself an issue by claiming those expenses when I was on Disability the entire year, but I also want to take them if I can, so... can I?

Yes, if your disability is not long-term and you are back at work or will be this year then there should be no problems with deducting your expenses to maintain your real estate license.
