My daughter was claimed as my dependent in 2020. I received a stimulus check for her since she was a dependent. She is filing independently this year and turbo tax asked her if she received one. Should she indicate "yes" even though I received her check. If she says no they are qualifying her for another $1400 which means we would get paid twice for her. Just not sure how to navigate turbo tax past this credit.

She is eligible to claim the third recovery rebate for 2021 if she is no longer a dependent. She was claimed as a dependent on your 2020 return, and you received the payment from the IRS. If you are not claiming her this year, and she is claiming herself, she can claim the recovery rebate.

She would answer no to the question about the third stimulus if she is not a dependent for 2021. She can claim herself and take the credit since the payment did not go to her.
