topic requiring a 1095-a for my spouse in Deductions & credits

I have a HDHP that covers my family. TT asks me "What type of HDHP did [spouse] have on December 1, 2020." If I answer "Family," it tells me she had a gap in coverage, which isn't true. I found advice here that I should answer "None," but when I do that it asks for a Form 1095-A. Since she's covered by my plan, she doesn't get one, so I check "No, we didn't receive or were not approved to receive unemployment" and "No, I didn't receive Form 1095-A." Then it tells me that if I don't enter a 1095-A before I file, the IRS will reject the tax return. What's going on and how do I fix it?

These questions are not all from the same place in TurboTax, so I will need your help in telling me where you are seeing these messages.

The first message "What type of HDHP did [spouse] have on December 1, 2020." is found at the end of the HSA interview.

But when you answered NONE (which is correct), where did TurboTax "ask[s] for a Form 1095-A"? That's not in the HSA interview. Where did you go to find this question? Had you gone to the Federal Review?

They are all definitely from the same place/interview. Here's the sequence of questions and my answers: 1) What type of HDHP did [spouse] have on 12/1/20? (Ans: None, though she's covered by mine). 2) Did you spend more than [xxx] on medical expenses? (Ans: No). 3) Before we ask about your Form 1095-A we need to ask about some other information. Did you or your spouse get unemployment compensation? (Ans: No). 4) Did you receive Form 1095-A for your health insurance plan? (No. She's covered by my insurance, for which I got a 1095-C). It's at this point that I'm told I have to enter a 1095-A before I can file or it will be rejected.

If you don't have a 1095-A and know you won't be receiving one, you can delete the 1095-A from your return. This will also remove the 8962 and allow you to change your answer to the 1095-A question to No. Here’s how:

Select Federal from the left menu, then Deductions & Credits

Scroll down to Medical and select Show More

Select Start or Revisit next to Affordable Care Act (Form 1095-A)

As you walk through the questions, you'll be asked if you received a 1095-A. Even if you didn’t receive this form, select Yes

You’ll need to create a “dummy” 1095-A: enter 0's for the Marketplace identifier and policy number, and $1 for the January amounts

On the screen Here’s what we have for your 1095-As, select delete next to the fake form you just entered, then yes, to remove the 1095-A entry

Select Tax Tools from the left menu, then Tools, then Delete a form. You shouldn’t see Form 8962 or Form 1095-A in the forms list. If you do see these forms, select delete next to the name of the form to remove it from your return

Select File from the left menu and continue through the process to re-file your return
