Hi,

I work 2 jobs and max out social security tax withholding on both jobs.

TurboTax does fill out Schedule-3, line 11, but that is only the employee portion of the excess withholding.

What happens to the employer portion of the excess withholding?..

shouldn't that be included in the refund as well?

Thanks

Mohan

Only the excess SS taxes which were withheld from your SS wages can be entered on your tax return as a tax payment.

You cannot get a credit for taxes you never paid. The employer paid their share to the SS administration.

No, that is not your money, it is the employer's money. He contributes half of the social security for you, not to you.

Yes, I understand it is the employer portion and it was paid by the employer.

My point is that, why should uncle sam get $8854 extra, that goes into a blackhole and never gets counted?.

Since the employer paid on my behalf, shouldn't I be entitled to it?

Thanks

No, you are not at all entitled to it. You did not pay it. It is the employer's responsibility to claim it on his own behalf.
