Married filling jointly. Both worked all year. Our dependent care was 17K. We did have $10,500 in dependent care benefits from employer, which should leave $5,500. We also didn't make too much so it phases out. We should be at .2, which should be $1100 credit. But... when I go through the Dependent Care Credit, and select Yes, and Yes to we have principal place of residence in US, and then select None of the above to full-time student and Disabled, and then Continue, it just takes me back to additional tax breaks. It doesn't allow me to enter the Qualified Expenses. It is really strange! Anybody else having the same issue? How to fix?

It depends. Child and dependent care expenses have changed for 2021. You are now able to get a credit for up to 50% of eligible expenses. You've done your research and already know you are eligible for 20% based on your income. However you didn't clarify whether you have two or more children. The answer assumes you do.

The amount of eligible expenses has increased from $3,000 for one qualifying person to $8,000. Additionally, for those with two or more qualifying persons, the amount of eligible expenses has increased from $6,000 to $16,000.

The first action may be as simple as clearing your cache and cookies. It's amazing what this can fix when your computer is holding bits of data you thought were gone. This only takes a few minutes.

Be sure to close your TurboTax return before you begin. Here are the official instructions for the most popular browsers:

Google Chrome

Mozilla Firefox

Microsoft Internet Explorer 11 (use the drop-down on the upper right corner of that page for earlier versions)

Microsoft Edge

How to delete cookies

Once this is completed try that section again and please update here if you need further assistance.

The credit will not populate unless you have entered income from a W-2 or self-employment income that shows a profit. You have to show income earned from working under each spouse's name or you cannot get the childcare credit. Have you entered your incomes yet?

I actually tried it on a different computer, and it still did the same thing. It is really odd. We do have 2 kids, and both were in day care.

I am still having the same issue. Any ideas? Who should I call to get support? This seems to be a glitch with how the system is working, and not a tax issue in my opinion.
