topic Child Tax Credit in Deductions & credits

Hi,

My wife and I became residents in the USA as of September 2021. By the way, my wife was 7 months pregnant and our child was born in November. We submitted our 2021 tax return. However, according to what I have read in some sources, it is written that the child is assumed to be living with the family in pregnant women. In our declaration, for the question 'did the child live with you for more than 6 months?' we chose "No" and we were not found to be eligible for child tax credit. Did we do it right? Or could we count the period when my wife was pregnant?

For a newborn you are supposed to say that the child lived with you for the whole year even if they were born on December 31. If you answered incorrectly you will have to wait for the return to be fully processed and then amend.

Make sure you have entered your child as a dependent in My Info, and that you have entered the child's Social Security number. If your child was born in 2021make sure you said he lived with you the whole year. There is an oddly worded question that asks if the child paid over half their own support. Say NO to that question.

So, there is one more question as "Did you live in the USA for more than 6 months in 2021?". Since we have been living in the USA since September, we answered this question as "No". I don't think we should change this. Am I right? Also, would it be a problem to make changes to the declaration afterwards?

One other thing-----you did not explain your immigration status---

NON RESIDENT ALIEN

If you are a non-resident alien, your return must be filed on Form 1040NR, which cannot be prepared using TurboTax. You can use TT’s partner, sprintax:

https://www.sprintax.com/non-resident-alien-tax-1040nr-turbotax.html

I've already filed a tax return. My only question is to get information for my child born in November 2021, thinking that I gave the wrong answer. Like you said, I guess I'll have to fix it once the return is fully processed. If there's no penalty for that, it's fine with me.
