      <description>&lt;P&gt;For tax year 2022; when completing my W-4 can I claim a child that is 16 yrs old but turning 17 in April 2022? And if so is it the $2000 or $500 amount? thanks.&lt;/P&gt;</description>

      <description>&lt;P&gt;Congress changed the criteria for the child tax credit to under the age of 18 for tax year 2021 ONLY.&amp;nbsp; &amp;nbsp;Unless they change it again it is supposed to go back to under age 17 at the end of tax year 2022.&amp;nbsp; And it also goes back to the lower amount of $2000 if you get CTC.&amp;nbsp; &amp;nbsp;But....who knows what tax laws will be changed.......&lt;/P&gt;</description>

      <description>&lt;P&gt;No---that does not mean you cannot claim him as a dependent.&amp;nbsp; &amp;nbsp;Age over 16 will only affect the child tax credit.&amp;nbsp; &amp;nbsp;You can still claim a qualified child as dependent until they turn 19, or until they turn 24 if they are a full-time student.&amp;nbsp; You can still claim a 17 year old as a dependent.&lt;/P&gt;
