Hello- I amended my return to claim the recovery rebate credit for EIP2. It didn’t show I was getting a federal refund but I do see the credit on line 30 of 1040. Did I do something wrong? I don’t see the credit on 1040X.

I see on my amended return that the credit was taken on form 1040 line 300. But no credit on form 1040x. My refund on 1040 increased by $600. Will that still be paid out to me?

EIP 2 would have been automatically credited to you when you prepared your first return if you qualified, and you would have had to take a specific step to remove it. In order for the IRS to accept the amended return and pay an additional $600, you would have to be in a situation where you changed some other facts on your return to make you eligible, or you accidentally removed the credit when you filed the first time. So it's not clear you are actually eligible. More information might be helpful.

The IRS sent me EIP2 at the beginning of the year but my bank account and address changed. So I never received the credit. I had already filed my taxes but since it has been 8 weeks since the credit was sent to me, I filed an amended return to claim the credit. My income is below the threshold so I am eligible.

Refer to the FAQ on this page for lost or stolen payments. The IRS indicates you must initiate a Trace to verify that the payment was not cashed. If you file an amended return before you initiate the trace, the IRS might refuse to pay it, since their computer will still think that EIP 2 was issued to you.

The IRS wants to explain my entry on line 15 on form 1040x. The 1040x form was returned to me. Column A is 0 but column B and C has same amount on my original1040 line 30. Is is ok just to manually write in hand written mark x on "other" on line 15 and specify it as "recovery rebate credit"?

It would be OK to mark the line 15 box and enter the explanation. I'm am confused by what you said though, as you seem to indicate that your original return had your recovery rebate credit amount listed on line 30 of your form 1040. So, if you already had the rebate credit listed on your tax return, then why are you amending it?

The Turbo tax didn't mark other on line 15 of 1040x form and didn't specify that it is for recovery rebate credit, that is why the IRS is asking to explain the number I entered on line 15.

I initiated the trace on April 1st and haven’t heard anything. I did notice the EIP 2 went from $600 to $0 on my irs account page. Should I refill the amended return now that the trace happening? I am unable to get anyone on the phone with the IRS.

Only the first and second Stimulus payments go on your 2020 return. The 3rd EIP3 will come separately. If you didn't get EIP1 or EIP2 or qualify for more it should be on your 2020 return line 30.

Generally, if you have adjusted gross income up to $75,000 for individuals and up to $150,000 for married couples filing joint returns and surviving spouses, you will receive the full amount of the recovery rebate. For filers with income above those amounts, the payment amount is reduced.

Even during “normal” times it takes about four months for the IRS to process an amended return. During the pandemic and due to the severe backlog at the IRS it is taking much longer—six months or more for many amended returns. Do not expect quick results from amending. When the IRS issues a refund for an amended return it will be by check. They do not make direct deposits for refunds for amended returns. You can watch for information here:

There is nothing TurboTax or you can do to speed up the processing of your amended return or to speed up the release of the EIP payments. If you used the recovery rebate credit to get the 2nd EIP payment it will be part of the amount in the refund check they will mail to you when they finish processing your 1040X. The 3rd check is often released after a 2020 return has been processed.

The IRS is issuing 3rd stimulus checks on its own timetable.

You can use the IRS Get My Payment site to see what is expected for your 3rd stimulus check:
