topic Do I receive any tax credits for all the expenses I spent while working at home? Like money spent office equipment and utilities to do my job. Applies to corporate jobs? in Deductions & credits

If the pandemic did not happen, I would be working at the office and the company would cover these expenses and provide the utilities need to do daily tasks for my job. But working from home means paying for those expenses yourself. So, is there a tax credit that applies?

Per the IRS "Employees are not eligible to claim the home office deduction."

Prior to passage of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, employees could possibly include unreimbursed business expenses if they worked from home at the convenience of their employer. But the tax code overhaul paused that ability until the provisions sunset at the end of 2025.

So for now, only self-employed taxpayers and independent contractors can take the federal deduction.

your employer does have the option of setting up an accountable plan to reimburse you for your out of pocket expenses or pay for equipment directly with the understanding that if your employment terminates you have to either return the equipment or reimburse the employer.
