When entering your medical expenses, please only enter them on the federal itemized deduction screens. Once you access these screens, you can enter your premiums, medical, dental, and vision expenses. These expenses will then flow to Schedule A on your tax return.

Please follow the instructions below to enter your medical expenses:

With your return open, search for medical expenses and then select the Jump to link in the search results.

Complete the on-screen instructions to enter your medical expenses.

To get a tax benefit from your medical expenses, you will have to meet the following requirements:

You must itemize your deductions, rather than taking the standard deduction.

The expenses for you, your jointly-filing spouse, and your dependent(s) must exceed 7.5% of your AGI (adjusted gross income); and

Only the portion above and beyond 7.5% of your AGI is deductible.

Go back and re-read the original problem. The medical fields are greyed out on EasyStep, locked on the Schedule A form. There should be no reason for this.
