Sorry, this response didnt help me with same question. For 2020, I (parent) filed my taxes and included my daughter (full time student for half of the year) as my dependent. For 2021, my daughter was working, not a student and could not be claimed as a dependent. In 2021, I (parent) received the stimulus check for my daughter whom I could no longer claim in 2021 as a dependent. How do we file for this. Should my daughter say she did not receive the stimulus check when she files? Do I need to return my daughter's stimulus check?

Your daughter is eligible for the Recovery Rebate Credit on her tax return because she in not a dependent. And you don’t have to pay back the money.

The IRS says: "No longer a dependent: Individuals who were claimed or could be claimed as a dependent on someone else’s tax return for 2019 or 2020 may now be eligible if they can’t be claimed as a dependent on someone else’s tax return for 2021."

See: Q C2. Not Eligible for Third Economic Impact Payments: If I wasn’t eligible for a third Economic Impact Payment, am I not eligible to claim the 2021 Recovery Rebate Credit? (added January 13, 2022).

Make sure neither of you claim your daughter as a dependent and enter the amount of stimulus you received on your return. Your daughter will enter $0 because she did not receive the payment (it was paid to you).
