topic Stimulus check return? in Deductions & credits

A spouse income is less than $50k and filed single to collect stimulus check. Now they planned to amend to file MFJ. With joint, income is > $210k and they have a refund with joint status. Will IRS request stimulus check back? If so, will they take it from refund due? And from whom will they take it back from? Both or spouse?

On a joint return, you are essentially one taxpayer. The person who filed a single return will have to use their single return as the basis for the amended return. When they launch the amendment, they will change their status to married filing jointly, and add their spouse’s income and deductions. If they do not qualify for a recovery rebate, that will add to the amount of tax they owe with the amended return or reduce the refund that could have been claimed.

Where can I find this info on IRS website? I myself didn’t file 2019 return until Dec 2020. I had full stimulus check. Now that I field my 2019, my income was > $75K. When I’m filing my 2020 return, I don’t see any extra money being taken back?
