topic mortgage interest deduction not transferring to Kentucky itemized Schedule A in Deductions & credits

My mortgage interest is not transferring to my Kentucky Schedule A for itemized deductions. I've had the mortgage for several years, and it has always shown as deductible on my KY tax return (I take standard on federal but itemize on KY). KY has changed nothing on this as far as I can tell. It's a primary residence mortgage -- home was paid off, but I took out a standard mortgage in 2015. I cannot figure this out. Using Premier desktop version. Thanks for any help.

If your mortgage isn't transferring to your KY tax return, you should go to the STATE tab and search for 1098 in the search box. and then jump to 1098.

This will tell TurboTax to include your 1098 on your state return.

Here is a TurboTax video about claiming State taxes on your federal return, and things to look out for.

I appreciate your reply. But -- for me, at least -- the "jump to" search (1098) didn't give me any links that took me to anyplace that helped. (Video was on another topic.)

I can go to "forms" and insert the mortgage interest onto my KY Schedule A, so I can make it work, but I am not understanding why TurboTax doesn't automatically do this. It makes me think I am missing something! Thanks again.

oops, no, I take it back. I can't figure out how to insert it via forms! Now I really am confused! Ha!

KY allows you to deduct both the mortgage interest and any mortgage insurance premiums. You can enter them directly on the form sch A, line 1 by either:

type the number directly into the box

click on the plus sign and enter description and amount

You should not have to do this. It should be flowing from the federal return. If you need more help, you can fill this form out for someone to call you.

Yes AmyC!!!! This is what I needed. Thank you!

For anyone else having this problem, and having trouble editing your state schedule A, this is more specifically what I had to do (on a desktop Mac): open Schedule A in "forms" (not "easy step") for the state (I opened in separate window); go to the apple apps menu for Turbotax; go to Edit; and then "override." This let me edit the form on Schedule A, line one.

Thank you again AnyC.
