Yes, absolutely. Nothing prevents you from deducting an eligible donation you made to a charity you work for.

@MinhT1 wrote:

Yes, absolutely. Nothing prevents you from deducting an eligible donation you made to a charity you work for.

I generally agree but there are some areas of potential concern.

You generally can't take a charity deduction that benefits a specific person, and you must be careful about self-dealing and directed deductions, especially if you are in a decision-making role in the charity. For example, if you donated $1000 for new furniture on condition that the furniture was purchased from your brother's store, that could be considered improper. Or, if you as a church trustee decided to donate money to your friend's cancer treatment go fund me, you can't get a charity deduction by passing the money through the church account. On the other hand, if you are the church secretary, and the board of trustees decided to make a donation to your friend's go fund me and you had no role in the decision, then you can take a charity deduction for donating to the church, even if the church is going to turn around and donate that to your friend.

Also, if you have a financial position, you would want to get another office to sign your receipt or donation letter, just as confirmation that you didn't issue yourself a letter for a higher amount than you actually donated, just so there is an independent person attesting to the donation.
