it depends. What kind of supporting data are you trying to enter? If you are trying to enter receipts or supporting documents that substantiate your donation, Turbo Tax does not have a place to enter that as the IRS doesn't require that you substantiate, unless you are subject of an examination. So keep all of this documentation handy if that occurs.

Here are IRS guidelines, that should answer your question in what documents to keep as well as the record keeping requirements. This is necessary in case if you are audited and need to present proof of your contributions.

I am having difficulty entering supporting data for deductions. There are times I can open a table to cumulate supporting data for a general topic of deductions--but, most of the times I can't in this 2020 TT program. What's the problem?

for many boxes if you want to enter detail right click on it and if you can enter detail a + sign will appear. click on the + sign. note that in these cases detail is not required and is not submitted to the IRS.
