If you happen to be using the Married Filing Separate filing status, then you may be required to use itemized deductions if your spouse is itemizing.

If that is not the case, then take a look at the following TurboTax article for steps to take to change the deduction:

How do I change from the standard deduction to itemized deductions and vice versa?

Another possibility too, is that if you qualify to be claimed as a dependent on someone else's return, (Which is common for a college student) then your standard deduction is the "lower" of $12,200 or your earned income, plus $350. So if your standard deduction is lower than $12,200, it's perfectly possible (but not common) for itemized deductions to be better.
