My itemized deductions are about half the standard deduction. Nevertheless, TurboTax insists on putting $25,700 (which is more than the standard deduction) on line 9 of the 1040. Quickzoom to the source shows Schedule A with correct amount. What gives?

If you are age 65 or older then there is additional amount added to your standard deduction based on your filing status. It would seem you are filing as Married Filing Jointly and one of you is age 65 or older, thus $25,700

Standard deductions for 2019

Single - $12,200 add $1,650 if age 65 or older

Married Filing Separately - $12,200 add $1,300 if age 65 or older

Married Filing Jointly - $24,400 add $1,300 for each spouse age 65 or older

Head of Household - $18,350 add $1,650 if age 65 or older
