TurboTax (Deluxe) asks "What type of HDHP did Ronald have on Dec. 1, 2018. (I don't remember telling TurboTax I had a HDHP, but I do. I have a personal deductible of $2500 and family deductibe of $5000.) I answer "family." The next question asks "Did Ronald HDHP coverage lapse in 2019 due to disability?" The explanation line says "We see Ronald had a break in HDHP coverage during 2019. Let us know if this was the result of disability. Well, I did not have a lapse in HDHP coverage in 2019. Why does TurboTax think I had a lapse? My choices to answer here are either that the lapse is due to disability or for some other reason. But both of those answers are wrong. What to do? Thanks.

As the screen Tell us about the health-related accounts you had in 2019, did you click None of the above?

It sounds like you should choose Health Savings Account (HSA).

TurboTax software presumes that you had an HDHP because you had a W in box 12 of your W-2. Then all it needs to know is whether you had Family or Single coverage.

On the W-2 entry screen did you correctly indicate who the owner of the form was ... sounds like you had the box 12 code W but the program thinks it is his ... review your W-2 entry screen ... is the correct person indicated ?

Thanks, JamesG1. But no, my W-2 does not have a "W" in box 12 (rather DD), nor did I check that I have an HSA. (I"m quite sure I went back and checked that but I've passed that point now.) I think this is a glitch in the Deluxe program. I did a Google search and found a whole thread of people having the same complaint as I. The recommendation to work around this was to check "None" to the question of whether I had Family, Self, or None coverage of a HDHP on Dec. 1, 2018, so that's what I did and moved on. But thanks once again.

It sounds like you have an HDHP, but not an HSA so that workaround should work.
