If your only income was workers compensation, you do not have to file a tax return. Workers compensation is not taxable. Filing a return without any taxes withheld from working is of no benefit in your situation. You cannot receive EIC or medical deductions. The child tax credit only reduces tax owed, and you will not owe tax.
