Form 8936 Availability

February 16. TurboTax Deluxe Windows CD installed. Program says Form 8939 for plug-in credit is not available yet but TurboTax on-line says form is available.

Form 8936, Qualified Plug-in Electric Drive Motor Vehicle Credit is available. It was included in the software release on 02/12/2020

Update your software. Click on Online at the top of the program screen. Click on Check for Updates.

If the message comes back that your software is updated and you still cannot access the Energy Efficient Vehicle section under Deductions and Credit, save your tax return and close the program.

Updating was the first thing I tried, twice, before asking the question. It still says the form isn't available.

Then download the manual update and install. But you might just want to re-boot your computer. In some cases this seems to work after an update when the form should be available but is not.

Reboot didn't work either. TurboTax shows last forms update on Feb. 6. I will have to try manual.

Did manual update and completed taxes. Today got email from TurboTax saying returns rejected awaiting updated form due Feb. 20.

When will this be available for Mac downloaded version? It keeps saying not ready. There's no manual update and I'm reading about rejected returns. When will this be fixed?

I followed steps in TT Mac edition and it said I needed to revisited the electric vehicle section again. I did this and everything remains the same... My question is, do I need to wait for an update or e-file again as it will let me do so. I am concerned about wasted time and effort if I do and it just rejects again.... I am to get 100% of the credit on my Honda Clarity PHEV so not impacted with the Tesla calculation errors..

What to do....

Well I went ahead and e-filed again filling what the App said to do. Maybe I will get accepted prior to the 2-20-2020 update or get another reject. Pending for now...

@LinaJ2020 I followed the app process for my rejections and looked at the electric Vehicle section again (nothing needed to change). The App let me file again and now shows pending. Because my Honda Clarity PHEV gets 100% of the $7500 possible, will I likely get another rejection in a couple days? The calculation issue does not impact my situation.

This is still a known issue in Turbo Tax. Please select this Turbo Tax link to sign up for a notification from Turbo Tax when this issue is resolved.

Did not work.. Updated manually and did not work. No 8936 available. Rebooted computer... nothing changed.

TurboTax has released an update to Form 8936. Follow these steps to insure that TurboTax is using the updated Form 8936.

Clear your browser's cookies and cache
Delete Form 8936
Enter your vehicle information on Form 8936
