I am employed as a General Manager with my company and have a W2 form. However, I do travel and have food and gas expenses. It seems that when I try to enter employment expenses, I don't meet any of the professions or situations listed and so I'm not able to enter these expenses. Is this correct? Am I really not able to deduct these expenses?

It depends.

These items are no longer deductible on your federal return but depending upon your state, they can be deducted on your state return as an itemized deduction.

You will enter these deductions in the Federal section of the return.

Go to "Deductions & Credits"

Under All breaks, select "Employment Expenses"

Select "Job Expenses for W-2 Income

Proceed to enter the applicable expenses.

Enter all of your information in the federal section to ensure it gets pulled into your state return.

I don't see the selection "Job Expenses for W2 income". All I see is "Job Related Income" and when I select that, it will ask me if I am in one of the professions listed or in one of the listed situations, which I am not. So once I select that I am not in one of the listed professions or situations, that's the end of it. I don't get to enter any job-related expenses.

Tat is what the answer above said - they are no longer deductible.

The TCJA (Tax Cuts and Jobs Act) eliminated all employee job related expenses deductions.
