topic How can I override the NY State Itemized deduction calculated by Turbo and still submit the taxes via efile? in State tax filing

I understand that Turbo calculates the best way to file. My federal filing calculated that the Standard Deduction was best for me, but my NY State was defaulted to Itemized, which only gives a couple of dollars of tax benefit above the NYS standardized deduction. Therefore, I don’t want to use Turbo suggestion for the NYS, but instead I would like to submit the standard deduction instead of the itemized deduction since the benefits are not significant. I overrode the itemized deduction on the form, but now it does not allow me to e-file and worse, this message only appeared at the very end of the filing process, after the review indicated that everything was completed and correct and we had already submitted the federal taxes. Therefore, can you pls let me know how can I chose to submit the standard deduction on our NYS taxes?

Overrides will prevent you from e-filing and will void the TurboTax 100% Accurate Calculation Guarantee.

TurboTax will not allow you to override New York itemized deductions if they are better than the NY standard deduction.

However, since the NY itemized deduction amount is less than federal and you are claiming the federal standard deduction, you can remove deductions to bring you under the itemized deduction floor.

If your only itemized deductions are state income tax withheld, you will have to change your itemized deductions to sales tax.

In Forms go to Tax & Int Wks (Tax and Interest Deduction Worksheet)

Go to line j. Select the middle box (Sales Taxes) to force the sales tax deduction. It looks confusing.

This should be enough to give you the NY standard deduction

I have a variation on this question. I've entered all of my deductions and the federal standard deduction is best for me, but the NYS itemized deduction is much better than the NYS standard deduction. (NYS allows the taxpayer to take the itemized state deductions even when taking the federal standard deduction.) However, the program has defaulted to the NYS standard deduction and I can't seem to change it. Can you please advise? Thank you.
